The US Army Corps of Engineers has announced its procedures to issuing the approximate 174 remaining boat dock permits available for Lake Lanier.
According to its press release, the Corps will be conducting a lottery style drawing to give all applicants an equal opportunity and to determine the order of precedence for reviewing the remaining permit requests.

The Lake Lanier Association has learned from the Corps that it will be issuing a press release on July 6 outlining the process for new Shoreline Use Permit/License requests for boat docks. As you recall, the Corps has had a moratorium in place on issuing new permits since August 2007 due to lake lake levels

After oral arguments in Court on May 11, we await a ruling from Federal District Judge Magnuson in Phase 1 of the Tri-State litigation. Phase 1 considers the authorized purposes of Lake Lanier. We expect a decision within 60 days. The judge has indicated that this decision will be longer than any decision he has made in his career (we expect it to be over 100 pages).

In Memory of Jaime Baray
The Lake Lanier Association held its 7th Annual Golf Tournament on June 1.
This year’s golf tournament was dedicated to the memory of our board member, Jaime Baray, who passed away in September 2008. Jaime organized all the association’s tournaments until his illness. Since my last report we’ve had boats out on trips everyday and the fish are moving to a more summertime pattern. Downline bluebacks fished 25-30 feet deep over a 35-60 foot bottom have produced well this past week. Some of these fish have been on and just off points, but we are beginning to see better size schools in the mouths of deeper coves over a 60 foot bottom.
