Lake Lanier Association's Shore Sweep
The 18th Annual Shore Sweep, September 30, 2006

Learn How You Can Volunteer with the Lake Lanier Association!

Lake Lanier Association has organized and managed an annual Shore Sweep program for the last eighteen years.  Once a year, the association rallies concerned citizens who volunteer to help clean the shores of the lake by picking up trash and removing Styrofoam.  Each year, hundreds of volunteers participate in Shore Sweep.  Since its inception, civic groups, youth groups, individuals and businesses removed from twenty five to fifty-five tons of trash annually from
Lake Lanier.

The LLA’s 18th Annual Shore Sweep was held this year on September 30 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.  Over  1,000 volunteers participated in the event removing  between 20 and 30 tons of trash and debris from Lake Lanier’s shoreline.  Total numbers will be announced soon. Volunteers received either a 2006 Shore Sweep T-shirt or a 2006 scouting patch.

For the first time in many years, Lake Lanier Islands was a Shore Sweep site. The volunteer appreciation party was at Lanier Park on Buford Dam Rd from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM.  Volunteers enjoyed picnic food, a DJ, good music, good fellowship, entertainment and drawings for some great prizes.

We want to say “thank you” to each member and volunteer for your support of Shore Sweep over the years. Your participation with us in keeping our Lake clean and unpolluted is much appreciated.

The Lake Lanier Association thanks its many sponsors of Shore Sweep this year.  We appreciate the sponsors who donated money to make this event possible, and we thank all those local businesses who donated prizes for the raffle at the volunteer appreciation party.  Please support those businesses which so generously support our efforts to keep Lake Lanier clean.
