Safety Procedures and Guidelines

Please make sure that all volunteers, especially children, follow proper procedures. All children and non-swimmers should wear personal flotation devices if working on or near the water and should never work alone:

  • All volunteers should always work with a friend
  • Wear strong shoes, work or latex gloves, and other protective clothing and dress warmly.
  • Supervise children at all times
  • Be careful when handling broken glass, sharp objects and any containers which may contain chemicals. If in doubt, do not pick up potentially unsafe items.
  • Watch out for snakes, bees, fire ants, wasps etc. in piles of debris.
  • Do not lift heavy objects.
  • Be careful around the shoreline as there are areas of quicksand, and shore can drop off steeply
  • Stay away from any animals in area (wild or domestic).
