Position Statements

The Lake Lanier Association supports the proposal for the creation of a new reservoir in north Hall County Georgia. The reservoir named “Glades Reservoir’ is proposed to deliver 6.4 million gallons a day (MGD) to Hall county through a release into Lake Lanier that would be processed in the water treatment facilities in the City Of Gainesville and delivered to communities in North Hall County.

The Lake Lanier Association supports this proposal for a new reservoir in Hall County Georgia:

  1. The impact on water levels in Lanier is very minor. In a very severe drought conditions, Lanier might have a monthly lake level average reduction of less than one inch.
  2. Because of the small lake level impact, this will provide another water supply for people in Hall County.
  3. Lanier Water Quality should not be negatively impacted as the Georgia EPD intends to certify this project in accordance with the Clean Water Act. We urge the implementation of strict quality standards for discharges should they be proposed.
  4. As growth in North Georgia continues, we feel that new sources of water must be investigated and implemented. This small reservoir will be a good start towards more new reservoirs in Georgia.
  5. The LLA also has proposed elevating Lake Lanier’s level from 1071 to 1073 feet above sea level. This approach would provide Georgia with a  new reservoir of 26 Billion gallons for a modest investment.
