Lake Lanier Water Quality:  Issues of concern to the future water quality health of Lake Lanier

The Lake Lanier Association is a strong advocate for responsible development and enlightened planning and a successful opponent of pollution to Lake Lanier. The association is or has been involved to some extent in the following issues of concern to the future water quality health of Lake Lanier:

  • EPD Permit to Gwinnett County to discharge 40 million gallons a day of treated wastewater into Lake Lanier at Shoal Creek
  • EPD Permit to the City of Gainesville to discharge up to 18 million gallons a day of treated wastewater into Lake Lanier
  • Placement of three areas of Lake Lanier on EPA’s impaired waters’ list (Section 303(d) of the Clean Water Act) in Spring, 2006.
