SUMMARY:Volunteer at Poker Run 2024
DESCRIPTION:Do you love big boats? Do you want to help ensure the 2024 Poker Run is safe and exciting for both participants and spectators?  Do you want to help LLA in its mission to serve the lake community?  If you answered yes to any of these questions\, we need YOU to volunteer for this year’s event. \nBonus: You get up close and personal access to all the boats\, captains and crews with a VIP experience AND bragging rights that you helped the Lanier Partners raise money for a variety of children’s charities AND helped the Lake Lanier Association carry out our mission of keeping Lake Lanier clean\, SAFE and full. How often does a win/win/win opportunity come along that’s fun and exciting too? \nCheck out the opportunities below and see if one of these volunteer positions is right for you. \nDock Attendant: Do you want to be in the middle of the action? Do you want a front row seat to some of the most powerful boats on the water? Do you want a chance to meet and mingle with captains and their crew? If so\, this position is for you! Dock attendants will be required to monitor docking activities in their assigned area and help ensure participants are directed to the correct slip. In the event that reserved slips are incorrectly occupied\, your job will be to report the situation to the correct authorities.  Positions are in 3 or 4 hour shifts and you will be rotated to different parts of the event during your shift so that you will get to enjoy more of the event.  *This position will require prolonged standing and extended time in the sun. Comfortable shoes and sunscreen are a must! \nBoat Ramp Attendant: It’s a pretty cool thing to watch the captains launch these beasts! We need your help to answer general questions\, monitor the ramp and point participants towards the appropriate authority if necessary. *Position may require periods of standing but carries little to no physical requirements.  There will be a canopy to escape the sun during idle times. *Volunteers may bring a chair\, book\, phone\, etc. to help pass the time between launches. \nContact pokerrun2024reg@gmail.com or jonascaman6930@gmail.com with any questions you may have! \nReady to volunteer to help at Poker Run 2024? SUMMARY:Shore Sweep 2024
DESCRIPTION:What is it?\nLake Lanier’s largest annual event to clean the shores of Lake Lanier of debris and trash. \nVolunteers can go to one of 13 locations around the lake to get supplies\, sign in and get a t-shirt to remember the day — and most importantly\, drop trash and other debris for removal. \nLet us know you are coming: Registration Opens Aug. 2024 \nAdvance Sites open on September 7th.\nThese unmanned locations located around the lake allow people to drop off trash for the two weeks prior to Shore Sweep. The advance sites allow you to participate in the cleanup on your schedule. These are accessible by water only to ensure we are only collecting lake trash. You do not have to register to do advance cleanup. Just be sure that you secure all debris high enough where it will not flow back into Lanier. The 2024 Advance Sites open on Saturday\, September 7th and close at sundown on Friday\, September 20th. . \nWhat could I need?\nHere is a basic list of supplies we found useful to have. There will be some limited supplies available at one of the locations above\, including trash bags\, stakes\, etc. This is not a mandatory list\, just one put together by volunteers of what they found useful to have. \n\nGloves\nRope (to pull floats from beaches back to drop sites)\nStakes for floats\nSledge hammer (for pounding in stakes)\nTarp to keep your boat clean.\n\nSafety first! Please make sure you have life vests\, Sunscreen\, and water to stay hydrated. Have a first aid kit in case any scrapes or bumps. Also bug spray is a must. DO NOT WEAR FLIP FLOPS. You need a good pair of work shoes\, remember there is glass on the beaches.

SUMMARY:Sweep the Hooch
DESCRIPTION:Sweep the Hooch is an annual watershed-wide trash cleanup that brings together hundreds of volunteers each year at dozens of parks\, tributaries\, and access points along the Chattahoochee River. \n\n\nVolunteers can chose to be walkers\, waders\, or paddlers. Note that each site has a limited amount of volunteer openings. Once a site reaches its capacity\, registration for that site will close – so we encourage you to register early. \nTypes of Volunteers: \n\nWALKERS are land-based volunteers who will pick up trash in and around the river or tributaries. Most often\, volunteers will get in some shallow water. At some sites\, walkers will specifically target invasive\, non-native vegetation (such as privet).\nWADERS are volunteers equipped with waders or wading boots and are stationed at select sites. These volunteers will collect trash from the shallow water areas\, and from areas on the river bank that are accessed most easily from the river and streamside trails. Volunteers must provide their own waders.\nPADDLERS will use kayaks\, canoes\, and stand-up paddleboards and travel between three and five miles per segment while picking up litter. These crafts are useful in collecting debris from portions of the river that cannot be accessed from the land side. Volunteers must provide their own kayaks\, canoes\, and/or SUPs. Boats are not available on-site.\n\nQuestions about volunteering? Contact tbates@chattahoochee.org. \n\n\nRegistration\nRegistration for Sweep the Hooch opens Wednesday\, February 14\, 2025. During registration\, each volunteer will be required to sign the CRK Liability Waiver\, which can be found here. This form will be authorized as an electronic signature during the registration process. \n\nPlease click here for more information!

SUMMARY:Women on Water Class
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS\nMarineMax’s exclusive Women on Water (WOW) courses are designed to get women behind the helm and enjoying the boating lifestyle. The classes are offered at many of our locations throughout the country\, and are taught by U.S. Coast Guard licensed captains who have been certified by MarineMax to conduct the lessons. \nThese small group seminars\, for women only\, are designed to build confidence by presenting information in an active\, fun\, and supportive environment. Each class is split in two parts: a classroom session and a practical\, on-water session. The laid back approach we take to educating female boaters helps to build confidence that they can be the captain of their own ship – no matter how large or small their boat may be. \nRegistration is required! REGISTER HERE
