SUMMARY:Volunteer at Poker Run 2023
DESCRIPTION:Do you love big boats? Do you want to help ensure the 2023 Poker Run is safe and exciting for both participants and spectators?  Do you want to help LLA in its mission to serve the lake community?  If you answered yes to any of these questions\, we need YOU to volunteer for this year’s event. \nBonus: You get up close and personal access to all the boats\, captains and crews with a VIP experience AND bragging rights that you helped the Lanier Partners raise money for a variety of children’s charities AND helped the Lake Lanier Association carry out our mission of keeping Lake Lanier clean\, SAFE and full. How often does a win/win/win opportunity come along that’s fun and exciting too? \nCheck out the opportunities below and see if one of these volunteer positions is right for you. \nDock Attendant: Do you want to be in the middle of the action? Do you want a front row seat to some of the most powerful boats on the water? Do you want a chance to meet and mingle with captains and their crew? If so\, this position is for you! Dock attendants will be required to monitor docking activities in their assigned area and help ensure participants are directed to the correct slip. In the event that reserved slips are incorrectly occupied\, your job will be to report the situation to the correct authorities.  Positions are in 3 or 4 hour shifts and you will be rotated to different parts of the event during your shift so that you will get to enjoy more of the event.  *This position will require prolonged standing and extended time in the sun. Comfortable shoes and sunscreen are a must! \nBoat Ramp Attendant: It’s a pretty cool thing to watch the captains launch these beasts! We need your help to answer general questions\, monitor the ramp and point participants towards the appropriate authority if necessary. *Position may require periods of standing but carries little to no physical requirements.  There will be a canopy to escape the sun during idle times. *Volunteers may bring a chair\, book\, phone\, etc. to help pass the time between launches. \nReady to volunteer to help at Poker Run 2023? Register Here! \n  \nMore about the LLA and Lanier Partner’s Annual Poker Run \nThe annual Poker Run event is returning September 14th – 17th! The Pirates of Lanier have asked LLA to work together for this year’s event. In addition to helping staff volunteers throughout the weekend\, the LLA will be leading important safety messages. \nLLA Board Member\, Matt Williams and Executive Director\, Amy McGuire\, will be speaking at the mandatory captains meeting on Friday\, September 15th. This meeting is required for all participating captains in advance of the race on Saturday. LLA will have our tritoon\, Ms. Jackie\, on the docks all weekend with courtesy life jackets available for anyone who may want to borrow one while they check out the ‘go fast’ boats brought in from all over the country. Finally\, LLA will be participating in the Vendor Village and is eager to share the LLA Mission with all in attendace. LLA hopes to bring awareness to safety percautions and the work of the LLA during this event. Please check out how you can get involved with this year’s event as a volunteer at the docks or on the boat ramp!

SUMMARY:Shore Sweep 2023
DESCRIPTION:What is it?\nLake Lanier’s largest annual event to clean the shores of Lake Lanier of debris and trash. \nVolunteers can go to one of 13 locations around the lake to get supplies\, sign in and get a t-shirt to remember the day — and most importantly\, drop trash and other debris for removal. \nLet us know you are coming: Shore Sweep Registration \nAdvance Sites open on September 9th.\nThese unmanned locations located around the lake allow people to drop off trash for the two weeks prior to Shore Sweep. The advance sites allow you to participate in the cleanup on your schedule. These are accessible by water only to ensure we are only collecting lake trash. You do not have to register to do advance cleanup. Just be sure that you secure all debris high enough where it will not flow back into Lanier. The 2023 Advance Sites open on Saturday\, September 9th and close at sundown on Friday\, September 22nd. \nWhat could I need?\nHere is a basic list of supplies we found useful to have. There will be some limited supplies available at one of the locations above\, including trash bags\, stakes\, etc. This is not a mandatory list\, just one put together by volunteers of what they found useful to have. \n\nGloves\nRope (to pull floats from beaches back to drop sites)\nStakes for floats\nSledge hammer (for pounding in stakes)\nTarp to keep your boat clean.\n\nSafety first! Please make sure you have life vests\, Sunscreen\, and water to stay hydrated. Have a first aid kit in case any scrapes or bumps. Also bug spray is a must. DO NOT WEAR FLIP FLOPS. You need a good pair of work shoes\, remember there is glass on the beaches.
