A Note from the President as Summer Wraps Up on Lake Lanier

As another incredible summer on Lake Lanier begins to wind down, I find myself reflecting on just how fortunate we are to call this remarkable lake home. From sunrise fishing trips and family gatherings to afternoons spent cruising the water and evenings watching spectacular sunsets, Lake Lanier has once again brought people together to create memories that will last a lifetime.

As we head into Labor Day weekend—the unofficial finale to another great boating season—I encourage everyone to keep safety top of mind. The holiday weekend is traditionally one of the busiest on the lake. Please wear your life jackets, operate your boat responsibly, stay alert, and never boat under the influence. Let’s work together to ensure everyone returns home safely so the weekend is remembered for all the right reasons.

We’re also looking forward to the Lake Lanier Poker Run. It’s a fantastic event that showcases the energy and camaraderie of our boating community while raising money for great causes. This year the Poker Run is under new management, and Lake Lanier Association is proud to be one of two area non profits to benefit from proceeds received from the event. Whether you’re a participant or a spectator simply enjoying the excitement, please remember that courtesy, patience, and safe boating make the day enjoyable for everyone on the water.

While summer may be coming to a close, one of the Lake Lanier Association’s most important events is just around the corner—Shore Sweep. Every September, thousands of volunteers demonstrate what makes this lake community so special by coming together to clean our shoreline and waterways. Last year’s Shore Sweep was our most successful ever, with more than 1,200 volunteers removing a record 128 tons of trash and debris from Lake Lanier. That remarkable achievement didn’t happen by accident—it happened because people like you chose to spend a few hours giving back to the lake that gives us so much. This year, we’re asking for your help once again. Whether you’re an individual, a family, a neighborhood, a business, or a civic group, there’s a place for you during Shore Sweep. Just a few hours of your time can make a lasting difference in preserving the beauty, health, and safety of Lake Lanier for generations to come.

Finally, I hope you’ll mark your calendar for a truly special evening this November as we celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Lake Lanier Association. For six decades, our members, volunteers, partners, and supporters have helped fulfill our mission of keeping Lake Lanier Clean, Full, and Safe. Our Anniversary Gala will celebrate the people and accomplishments that have shaped our organization while looking ahead to the next 60 years of protecting the lake we all love.
