Sweep the Hooch
March 23 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
LLA has once again teamed up with Chattahoochee Riverkeeper to host a cleanup site as part of Sweep the Hooch 2024!

IMPORTANT UPDATE 3/22/24 – It looks like we are in for a rainy evening! Along with the rain, comes an important update regarding the Sweep the Hooch sites.
Beaver Ruin site is CLOSED! This location gets very muddy and conditions will not be safe for heavy equipment operation. There are still two available sites to drop off dock floats and volunteer to remove trash.
DISPOSE OF DOCK FLOATS AT THESE TWO LOCATIONS:
Don Carter State Park
Holly Park

This year, the LLA will be the site hosts for the Beaver Ruin location! This is a hidden gem of Lake Lanier, located off of Pilgrim Mill Rd. in Cumming, GA. If you can not join us at Beaver Ruin check out the other locations around the lake. There are lots of opportunities for walkers, paddlers and boaters!
Registration for Sweep the Hooch 2024 opens 2/14/24!
Volunteer Opportunities:
- Register to cleanup on Saturday, March 23rd. See the link below.
- We want to organize the effort and need to scout out the trashiest locations. This is where we need some additional help. Do you have a boat that is not winterized and live near or are willing to travel to the Laurel Park area? Are you willing to schedule a time to take a couple people on a tour of the area and shoreline?
- Do you have a jet ski and are willing to scout on your own and send pin drops and photos? If you answered yes to either of these options, please email your availability in mid-march to [email protected].
Sweep the Hooch is an annual watershed-wide trash cleanup organized by the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper that brings together hundreds of volunteers each year at dozens of parks, tributaries, and access points along the Chattahoochee River. Sweep the Hooch sites can be found from Helen down to West Point Lake and beyond.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT DOCK FLOATS:
Dock floats can be removed at Don Carter State Park and Holly Park ONLY! All other Sweep the Hooch sites are for household trash only.
