Planning is in full swing for the 37th annual Shore Sweep cleanup on Lake Lanier. Last year, at the 2024 event, 85 tons of trash and debris were removed at the hands of over 1,200 volunteers.
We are excited to announce a few adjustments we’ve made to the advanced sites. We added 4 Mile Island to give an easier advance location for everyone in the 2 Mile, 4 Mile, and 6 Mile areas. We are also expanding the times these sites will be available. The 2025 Advance Sites open on Tuesday, September 2nd, and close at sundown on Sunday, September 21. This gives everyone plenty of opportunity to participate, even if you can’t make the big event on Saturday, September 20.
Registration is still open till the 15th for group registration. However, Individual registration is open till the day of. Information on the registration form, along with the website, provides all the information needed for the event. Everyone who volunteers is always invited to stop by one of our 15 lake-wide sites to get a Shore Sweep shirt and a thank you from our site captains and crews. You will be receiving information after you register through email and on social media.
This is our yearly chance to get out and show the lake some love. We encourage neighborhoods to join and make this time as productive as possible. This event is critical to maintaining a clean, safe Lake Lanier. When asked if we want to set a record, my normal reply is no…. I want so little trash that we only find 5 tons of trash. However, this year I want to set a record, let’s get 100 tons of trash off the lake, together!

WHEN: September 20th, trash drop off and supply pickup will be open from 8am-1pm at all sites. This is a drop-in event. Pick up trash on your way to the site for drop off, pick up your supplies first, then head out to clean, or do a combination of the two.
HOW: Attend via boat, PWC, kayak, canoe, land, or a combination. People walking the shoreline and boats of all sizes can help with this event. Kayak teams have gone into coves that no one else can access and collected trash in laundry baskets strapped to their boats. PWC have pulled trains of dock floats. Pontoons have put down tarps and filled up their boats with piles of bagged trash. We need boats of all types and sizes for this cleanup!
