Lake Lanier Mini-Cleanup at the “Whale Tail”
January 7, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
EVENT DETAILS:
Lake Lanier “Whale Tail” Cleanup on 01/07/2023
The Lake Lanier Association and the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper are teaming up to host this land-based cleanup on January 7th near Don Carter State Park. Specific directions will be sent to those registered. The cleanup will begin promptly at 9:00AM and will wrap up around 12:00PM.
LOCATION
The exact meeting location and parking directions will be sent to registered volunteers a few days prior to the cleanup event. However, we will be near Don Carter State Park in Gainesville, GA! This site (approx. a quarter-mile walk from the parking area) has a slightly challenging terrain due to the location and trash accumulation. The trash is intermingled within a large log pile in a cove and anyone with limitations or injuries may have difficulty. Please consult your physician if you are concerned about participating. Also, please do not bring any additional unregistered volunteers – we maintain a specific capacity to ensure everyone’s safety at the cleanup site.
AGE REQUIREMENTS
Volunteers must be 16 years or older for this cleanup. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult 21 years or older.
WHAT TO BRING
Volunteers are asked to bring a positive attitude and clothes that can get DIRTY! 🙂 Sturdy closed-toe shoes are required. Long sleeves and long pants are highly encouraged. Trash bags, cut-resistant gloves, and a limited supply of trash pickers will be provided. Participants should bring their own snacks and reusable water bottle – we will supply a water cooler to refill your water bottle.
NOTE
Whether walking, wading, or paddling, most of our cleanups involve getting in or near water and collecting trash that is typically covered with sediment. Be ready to get dirty! We promise you’ll have fun and there are always great pictures taken.
WEATHER CONCERNS
The cleanup will be canceled if there is a threat of heavy rain or severe thunderstorms/lightning. All registered participants will receive an email prior to the cleanup.
All volunteers will receive an annual Lake Lanier Association AND Chattahoochee Riverkeeper membership for their efforts. Thank you for volunteering!
